The SBIR proposal process consists of three distinct phases, each designed to advance innovation from concept to commercialization.
Phase I: Feasibility and Proof of Concept. In the first phase, initial research and development to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed innovation.
Phase II: Research and Development. Based on the success of Phase 1, Phase II involves further development and prototype creation.
Phase III: Commercialization. In the final stage, the focus shifts to securing funding from private investors, government contracts, or other sources to bring the technology to commercial viability.
